Cloud Mobil - Niederösterreichische Landesausstellung
CLOUD MOBIL is an interactive AV installation conceived and realized for the 2019 Lower Austrian State Exhibition "World in Motion!". With the use of 9 projectors, 4 interactive terminals, and custom-designed furniture, a historic vault in the newly revitalized Kasematten of Wiener Neustadt was transformed into a constantly moving vehicle, making the present and future of our mobility directly tangible.
The audiovisual scenography takes up the "Spaceship Earth" metaphor of the American economist Henry George. Everyday routes and individual decisions of visitors are put into relation with the systemic consequences of our collective mobility. The complex, abstract aggregation effects on the environment and health are thus made playfully accessible.
The CLOUD MOBIL is divided into two main areas, the ENGINE-ROOM and the COCKPIT.
The ENGINE-ROOM is a place for information and interaction. Here, our present everyday mobility is addressed. Individual decisions are linked to the effects of our collective mobility within a multi-layered information design. At interactive terminals, visitors have the opportunity to analyze their everyday routes. The mobility options available are walking, cycling, public transport, moped, and car, possibly supplemented by the options multimodal, carpooling, and electromobility. The basis for decision-making includes not only the distance and duration of the route, but also costs, effects on individual health, and the respective CO2 emissions.
On the middle windows, all analyzed routes are continuously visualized by different modules. Various emergent key figures of mobility are shown, such as the totals for duration, distance, and costs, or the frequency of use for means of transport. In addition, the effects of the specified routes on the environment and health are described. This makes the systemic consequences of our individual mobility behavior comprehensible and lays the foundation for informed everyday decisions.
The COCKPIT offers space to pause and reflect. Visitors become part of a symbolic journey into the future of mobility. Abstract constellations representing futuristic forms of mobility drift past the windows. Occasionally, a comet brings forth a question addressing the future and sustainability of our transport system. In this way, the future of mobility takes shape directly in the mind.
